NKV Archaeology Articles News is committed to the highest standards of journalism as applied to the field of archaeology and ancient history. This Editorial Policy governs all content published under the NKV brand, including work by staff editors, contributing journalists, academic guest authors, and freelance writers.
Editorial Independence
NKV’s editorial decisions — what we cover, how we cover it, and what conclusions we draw — are made exclusively on journalistic merit and public interest. No advertiser, sponsor, university partner, museum, government agency, or donor has any influence over our editorial content. All sponsored or partner content is produced and labeled entirely separately from NKV’s editorial operation.
Accuracy & Scholarly Integrity
All factual claims in NKV articles must be supported by verifiable sources before publication. For research summaries and reports on academic findings, we consult the original peer-reviewed publication rather than relying solely on press releases. Our editors are trained to distinguish between preliminary findings and established consensus, and to communicate that distinction clearly to readers.
Fairness & Representation
Archaeology intersects with living cultures, indigenous communities, and contested histories. NKV commits to:
- Seeking comment from communities whose heritage is the subject of reporting
- Presenting indigenous and non-Western perspectives with equal seriousness
- Avoiding the framing of non-Western cultures as passive subjects of Western scientific inquiry
- Accurately representing disputes within the archaeological community rather than flattening complexity

Conflicts of Interest
NKV journalists and editors may not cover institutions, excavations, or individuals with whom they have a personal, financial, or professional relationship without prior disclosure to the Editor-in-Chief. Staff may not accept gifts, field access, or payment from organizations they cover. Guest academic contributors must disclose all institutional affiliations and funding sources relevant to their article.
Use of Imagery
Photographs of human remains, sacred objects, and culturally sensitive artifacts are used only when they serve a clear educational or journalistic purpose, and only with appropriate contextual framing. NKV does not publish images of human remains in a sensationalized or disrespectful manner.
